About Trondheim (Norway)

Trondheim is the third largest city in Norway and is considered the Norwegian capital of knowledge. NTNU: Norwegian University of Science and Technology plays a crucial role in this, as it is the largest university in Norway. There are many highlights in Trondheim. The Nidaros Cathedral in the centre is an impressive sight. The cathedral’s history also makes it a hugely popular pilgrimage destination in Europe. Go for a stroll along Trondheim’s cobbled streets aligned with niche shops, explore famous attractions such as the Nidaros Cathedral and Archbishop’s Palace, and tuck into locally produced goodies at the city’s many restaurants.

The city is situated directly on the fjord and is the region's capital. Furthermore it is considered the home of Nordic delights. Trondheim is listed with three stars in the Michelin Guide and was crowned one of the best culinary destinations by Condé Nast Traveler in 2022.

Some of the city’s most popular museums include Trondheim Art Museum, National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum) and the Archbishop’s Palace (Erkebispegården). A museum with another kind of artistic expression is Rockheim, Norway’s national museum for popular music.

With some 40,000 students in Trondheim, there is always something fun going on. Enjoy live music or look for bargains in the many niche shops in the city’s charming neighbourhoods.

Just outside the city centre, you’ll find Bymarka, a vast outdoor area ideal for long walks any time of year, and for skiing in the winter.
